Due to an abundance of wildlife at Island Lake Lodge, there may be temporary trail closures in effect. Island Lake Lodge takes the safety of our guests, staff and wildlife very seriously and have procedures in place to address these situations:
- In cases where interaction between dangerous wildlife and humans has occurred around our trail system, the area will be closed for 48 hours to give space and a chance for the dangerous wildlife to move on. Island Lake Lodge notifies the Conservation Officer Services and updates the trail report, website, Facebook and information kiosks about closures. Please check these locations before going on a hike.
- We monitor the closure area and determine as best we can if the dangerous wildlife has moved away from the area.
- If it is determined that the dangerous wildlife is still present the closure will remain in effect for another 48 hours and we continue to monitor use safe means to encourage the wildlife to move on.
- If there is no indication of that dangerous wildlife, we will remove the Closure signs and replace them with the Caution signs for a week.
- If there are no more reports for a week the Caution signs will then be removed.
Island Lake Lodge is rich in wildlife contributing to the special place it is. Wildlife can be seen at any time on our property, please take responsibility for preventing dangerous wildlife encounters.
